New York City's Graphics Industry
Volunteers Help Graphics Teachers Teach
and Graphics Students Learn ...
and Grow
We're the Graphics Industry Advisory Committee an all-volunteer group of executives, academics, vendors, employers and analysts who work to keep New York's schools up-to-date with the exciting changes affecting the digital media industry and the expanding opportunities for skilled careers in the field.
New
York's Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers offer a wide range
of relevant and engaging subjects: graphic design, illustration,
photography, package design, video production, web site design and
filmmaking.
We supportCTE educators in six important ways.
CURRICULUM REVIEW
Domain experts advise schools on current and developing topics and trends, review technology and process needs, and help prepare curricula for New York State Board of Education CTE certifications.
TEACHER TRAINING
We produce Graphics Teachers Professional Development, important learning events that network classroom teachers with peers, industry experts and innovators -- free-of-charge to teachers.
CITYWIDE COMPETITION
Since 2001, the annual Citywide Graphic Arts Competition held at CUNY's College of Technology is an inspiring event that focuses students' energies and efforts on creating competitive graphics in a college setting.
SCHOLARSHIPS FOR COLLEGE
Our affiliate, the Graphic Arts Scholarship, Award and Career Advancement Foundation, is a non-profit organization that funds dozens of scholarships each year for graphics students at colleges and universities like Parsons, Pratt, SVA, SUNY, CUNY and the Rhode Island School of Design.
MENTORING, INTERNSHIPS AND JOBS
Our members offer mentoring and internship opportunities to students as well as externships to teachers.
ADVOCACY
Graphics volunteers advocate for Career and Technical Education programs in the midst of the constant reforms of the city’s school system, emphasizing practical school-to-work approaches and forward-looking Digital Age education strategies.
